Meet your provider

Hi, I’m Melissa Pate, PMHNP-BC, a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. With more than 20 years of experience in mental health and nursing, I’ve supported individuals facing anxiety, depression, ADHD, PTSD, bipolar disorder, OCD, and more.

I believe in treating the whole person, not just a diagnosis. My approach is warm, judgment-free, and focused on building trust so you can feel safe opening up. Together, we’ll work toward helping you rediscover balance and well-being.

At Shine Now Psychiatric Services, I believe that healing begins with being seen, heard, and truly understood. My approach goes beyond symptom management, I partner with you to create a personalized care plan that supports your mental, emotional, and physical well-being.

What sets my practice apart is my commitment to compassionate, evidence-based care in a safe and welcoming environment. Whether you’re navigating anxiety, depression, ADHD, trauma, or life’s daily stressors, we meet you where you are, with empathy, respect, and real solutions.

Here, your journey to wellness is supported every step of the way. I don’t just want you to get better, I want you to shine.

FAQs

  • At this time, we do not accept insurance. Shine Now Psychiatric Services is a self-pay clinic, which means payment is due at the time of service.

However, we want to make accessing care as smooth as possible. We can provide you with a “superbill” — a detailed receipt of your visit — that you can submit to your insurance company for potential out-of-network reimbursement, depending on your plan’s coverage.

Our goal is to keep the process accessible, transparent, and stress-free, so you can focus on your mental health rather than complicated billing systems.

  • No referral is required to schedule an appointment with Shine Now Psychiatric Services.

We believe accessing mental health care should be simple and straightforward — you can book directly without needing a referral from another provider.

  • Your first appointment is designed to be thoughtful, thorough, and focused entirely on you—not on paperwork.

Before your visit, you’ll receive intake forms to complete. These forms provide important background details, including your medical history and medication list, so we can spend more time talking and less time filling out forms. I will review this information before we meet to have a clear understanding of your history and needs.

    During the appointment, we will:

    • Discuss your symptoms and mental health history to better understand what’s happening and what has or hasn’t worked for you in the past.

    • Explore family history and current medications to get a full clinical picture.

    • Talk through your goals and expectations for your healthcare journey, including any negative past experiences you’d like to avoid repeating.

    • Set realistic, personalized goals that support your specific needs and vision for your mental health.

My approach is integrative psychiatry, meaning I look at the whole person—not just the symptoms. This may include:

    • Medication management

    • Vitamin, mineral, or supplement support to address nutritional needs

    • Lab testing as part of your individualized care plan

    • Counseling to help you build practical skills for long-term wellness

    Appointment Length & Cost

    • First appointment: Typically about 1 hour – $295

    • Follow-up appointments: 15–30 minutes – $150 for basic services

Our goal during this first visit is to build a strong foundation of trust, gain a deep understanding of your needs, and create a personalized plan to support your mental health and well-being.

  • We understand that life happens and plans can change. To respect both your time and ours, we kindly ask that any cancellations be made at least 48 hours in advance.

    • Follow-up appointments: A $75 fee will apply for missed appointments or cancellations made less than 48 hours in advance.

    • Intake (first) appointments: A $150 fee will apply for missed appointments or cancellations made less than 48 hours in advance.

This policy helps ensure we can offer timely care to all patients who need it.

  • Not necessarily. Whether or not medication is recommended will depend on your initial intake assessment and your individual needs.

Together, we’ll discuss your symptoms, history, and goals to create a personalized treatment plan. If medication is appropriate, we’ll talk through your options, answer any questions, and move forward at a pace that feels right for you.

Our approach is thoughtful and collaborative — never rushed.

  • If you are ever feeling like you may harm yourself or others, or are experiencing severe mental health symptoms, please seek immediate help by going to your nearest Emergency Room or calling 988 (Suicide & Crisis Lifeline).

Shine Now Psychiatric Services does not provide crisis intervention services. While we do our best to offer appointments within the same week, there are no same-day appointments due to required intake paperwork and consent forms.

Your safety is the top priority. In an emergency, always seek immediate medical attention rather than waiting for an appointment.

Reaching out for help isn’t a sign of weakness, it’s an act of strength.

You deserve a space where you can feel supported, understood, and empowered to heal.
